Purple Door

When I am taking a photograph I am always on the look out for interesting shapes and lines and of course, colour and tone. This purple door was screaming to be used as a photographic backdrop and the light in the small courtyard was perfect with a large building opposite the door cutting out the glaring top light of the sun. I really like how the red of the bricks and dog fur compliment each other and then the purple door acts as a darker contrast and frames the dog well. I've had some great feedback about this photo on Facebook too which is great, besides who can resist such a sweet face as Henry's?

  1. A Golden will win accolades any day. Aren't they just the best and so expressive. LOVE the purple door as a backdrop. Well spotted!

    1. Thanks Virginia. It's actually the smaller cousin of the Golden Retriever - the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Lovely dogs :)

  4. Lovely picture - I'm spotting the picture techniques too - framing, thirds ...And a wonderful subject, although I'd have never guessed the official name!

    1. Thanks Rashbre. Sometimes the rules apply, sometimes I break them. This time the rules worked rather well :)

  5. Hi there - I think you are correct – it’s a great combination of colour and tone - and a rather nice dog does no harm either!

  6. It is always great when an interesting 'prop' appears, just when you have your camera ready, isn't it?

Even better when you have a handsome man in the picture too!!! Love the way you managed to capture those great big paws.
